Recycleit Sustainability Project
Lancashire
Our Story
Our sustainability project started at the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic when we recognised a real struggle for key workers to access I.T equipment at affordable prices. This was essential in many cases to ensure both children and adults were able to access I.T; to essentially keep their business trading, teach their children, or in a lot of cases look for jobs.
Having found that none of this was being done in the region, we engaged with local organisations and sought partnerships with companies that fitted our company ethos towards a circular economy.
In 2021 we donated over 25K of equipment at the heigh of the Covid Pandemic across numerous different organisations across Lancashire. The Our project enabled us to offer and support to the local community and has led us pledge to plant one tree for every tonne of e-waste we collect through our clients, teaming up with organisations we’ve formed partnerships on our journey.
The Challenge
The biggest challenged we faced across the project was looking at how we could make it affordable, whilst ensuring we delivered on what we set out to do. Not only did we have to look at the financial aspects but also break down our reports to ensure we could deliver a project that the community and locals could get on board with.
Carrying out more research on trees was something when we look back on, we should’ve done. What they cost, how many different species there are, when is the optimal-tree planting season, and what different environmental benefits there are depending on the choice of species are all factors that would’ve helped us tremendously in the tree planting initiative.
Looking into the investment that’s needed to make the project sustainable and how to market our product was also something we had to think about initially and was hugely important towards our success.
Our Solution
RecyleIt are fully-committed to establishing a sustainable circular economy for IT, focussing on Reusing and Refurbishing redundant IT equipment instead of sending it to landfill. We work strategically across the UK; where we offer rebates on unwanted kit, offer free kit collections which contributes to the economic success of our clients, as well as helping them achieve their sustainability targets. By using the same dedicated teams to populate new devices to desk, we also remove all redundant devices minimising risk, resources, and carbon emissions.
We have teamed up with Lancashire based Crow Wood Leisure in which we will contribute towards the woodland planting 1000’s of trees over the next 10 years.
Our project has also seen us partner with the Ribble Rivers trust in which we will contribute towards. We have also established partnerships with major football clubs such as Burnley and Accrington Stanley, offering laptop and desktop donations, as well as the Healthier Heroes and Pendleside Hospice which allows under privileged children and adults to access I.T.
In 2021 alone we collected over 200,000kg in e-waste, collecting over 20,000 devices and saving over 17,000 from landfill to reuses them. It means we’ve reused over 87% of units all with 0% landfill, and have seen us plant one tree for every ton of e-waste we collect at our partner sites.
